Becky Appleton Rood

August 23, 1951 — February 16, 2009

Becky Appleton Rood was born in Hobbs, New Mexico on August 23, 1951. Mrs. Rood moved to Dell City, Texas in September of 1979 and then moved to El Paso in June of 1980. She was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church. Mrs. Rood held a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in reading and was certified as a school librarian in the state of Texas. She was employed by the Canutillo School District as a librarian at Damien Elementary until her death on February 16, 2009. During her tenure in Canutillo she was selected as teacher of the year. Becky was preceded in death by her father, a brother Rocky and a sister Kathy. Mrs. Rood met her husband Thomas or Tomaso as she called him, in Dell City and they were married in June of 1984. She will be sadly missed by her mother, Reta, brother Terry and his wife Peggy of Hobbs. A sister, Marty and her husband Van and children David and Holly of Beckville, Texas. Two nieces Terri Marie and Kalli. Three step-children, Melodie and Heidi of Dallas and Mark from Telluride, Colorado. Melanie Gallagher, her sister and her closest friend and her husband Bob from El Paso. A god-daughter, Stephanie, in California. A special thanks to Martha Boyle and Dr. Chesbro and the Mariposa Hospice Group. Services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, 1699 Belvidere at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 21, 2009. Pastor Wayne Kendrick of Peace and Deacon Daphne Orgeron of St. Francis the Hill Anglican will be conducting the service. In lieu of flowers the family have requested that donations be made to Peace Lutheran Preschool, 595 Belvidere, or the Stephen David Judd Scholarship at New Mexico State University.
