Basilia Fernandez Mendoza, age 98, went to be with the LORD on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. She was a loving daughter, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, friend and role model to many.
Basilia, was her parents’ last surviving daughter and affectionately known as “Tia Chila”. She was preceded in death by her parents: Felix Fernandez and Francisca Bugarin Fernandez, her siblings: Mariano, Apolinar, Eloy, Juanito and Felix Fernandez, Tomasa Berumen, Maria Ana Santiesteban, Eva Villa and her son: Isaias Mendoza. She is survived by her daughter: Marisela Quintana, her son: Alejandro Mendoza, and her grandchildren: Angelica Mabel Aranda, Carlo Franco Quintana, Jannet Mendoza, and Giselle Garcia. Her great-grandchildren:Carolina Maria Rodriguez, Jade Marie Rivera, Marco Antonio Rodriguez, Sophia Renne Quintana, Camila Danae Gonzalez and her great-great-granddaughter Camila Sofia Enriquez. She is also survived by many extended family and friends to cherish and honor her memory.
She worked as a machine operator at Hicks and Ponder, raising her three children as a single mom. Sent them to private secondary schools in El Paso with two of them later earning BS College degrees. Took care of her mother who lived to 101 years of age and helped her brothers and sisters when in need. In 1965 she received Jesus Christ as her personal LORD and Savior and completely dedicated her life to serve HIM. Her joy was to evangelize presenting the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost.
She would go knocking on doors in her neighborhood to continue ministering to them. Her love for the lost guided her to open a small church in her neighborhood in the city of Juarez. During her last years she continued to testify with the influence of her example; motivating those around her to change their lives for the better. She was loved, respected and honored for being a true servant of the Lord and a Warrior. The Lord has prepared a beautiful crown for her. She will be greatly missed.

A Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, May 30, 2024 with a Prayer Service to commence at 6:00pm at Sunset Funeral Homes-West.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30am on Friday, May 31, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Homes-West.
A Graveside Service will follow at Evergreen East Cemetery,12400 Montana Ave, El Paso, TX 79938.

Basilia Fernández Mendoza, de 98 años, partio con el SEÑOR el miércoles 15 de mayo de 2024. Fue una hija, mamá, abuela, bisabuela, tatarabuela, tía, amiga y modelo a seguir para muchos.
Basilia, cariñosamente conocida como “Tia Chila”, fue la última hija sobreviviente y precedida en muerte por sus padres: Félix Fernández y Francisca Bugarín Fernandez, sus hermanos Mariano, Apolinar, Eloy, Juanito and Felix Fernandez, hermanas: Tomasa Berumen, Maria Ana Santiesteban, Eva Villa, y su hijo: Isaías Mendoza. Le sobreviven su hija: Marisela Quintana, su hijo: Alejandro Mendoza, y sus nietos: Angélica Mabel Aranda, Carlo Franco Quintana, Jannet Mendoza y Giselle García. Sus bisnietos: Carolina María Rodríguez, Jade Marie Rivera, Marco Antonio Rodríguez, Sophia Renne Quintana, Camila Danae González y su tataranieta Camila Sofía Enriquez. También le sobreviven muchos familiares y amigos extendidos que atesoran y honran su memoria.
Trabajó como operadora de máquinas en Hicks and Ponder, criando a sus tres hijos como madre soltera. Los envió a escuelas secundarias privadas en El Paso, con dos de ellos más tarde obteniendo títulos universitarios de licenciatura. Cuidó de su madre, quien vivió hasta los 101 años de edad, y ayudó a sus hermanos y hermanas cuando lo necesitaban. En 1965, recibió a Jesucristo como su SEÑOR y Salvador personal y dedicó completamente su vida a servirle. Su gozo era evangelizar presentando el Evangelio de Jesucristo a los perdidos, tocando puertas en su vecindario. Para continuar ministrándoles, abrió una pequeña misión en su vecindario en la ciudad de Juárez.
Durante sus últimos años, continuó testificando con la influencia de su ejemplo, motivando a quienes la rodeaban a cambiar sus vidas para mejor. Fue amada, respetada y honrada por ser una verdadera sierva del Señor y una guerrera. El Señor ha preparado una hermosa corona para ella. Se le extrañará mucho.
Gracias a quienes elevaron a nuestra familia en oración durante este tiempo. Que el SEÑOR los bendiga a todos.
Una visita se llevará a cabo de 4:00pm a 8:00pm el jueves 30 de mayo de 2024, con un Servicio de Oración que comenzará a las 6:00pm en Sunset Funeral Homes-West.
Una Celebración de Vida se llevará a cabo a las 11:30am el viernes 31 de mayo de 2024 en Sunset Funeral Homes-West.
Un Servicio en el Cementerio seguirá en Evergreen East Cemetery, 12400 Montana Ave, El Paso, TX 79938.
