Arthur J. Contreras (Art) April 21, 1957- January 5, 2012 Arthur J. Contreras (Art), 54, was called by our Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 5, 2012 after a courageous year and a half battle with cancer. Art was born in El Paso in 1957. He graduated from Austin High School in 1975 and continued his education by attending Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO. Art was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Candido and Agripina Murphy. He is survived by 2 sons: Richard G. Contreras and Paul Alanis; his parents: Jesus and Lucy Murphy Contreras; and a brother, Jim Contreras; an uncle, Charles T. Murphy; and 2 cousins: Rebecca Zubia and Joanne Saenz and Isaac J. Estrada on his maternal side. He is also survived by several uncles, aunts, and cousins on his paternal side. Art was employed as an Electronic Technician and later as a Computer Engineer. He worked for various Health, Manufacturing or Computer Robotics companies throughout Texas and Colorado. His employers included: Ohio Medical, Cardinal Health and Bachi Coil Winding. Art attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Those of us who knew him well will always remember him for his keen mind and as an individual who always had a kind, loving and cheerful demeaner. His personality allowed him to make friends easily and bring smiles to the many people he came in contact with. We will remember him for his love of electronics, computers and the outdoors.An avid camper, fisherman and hiker, Art often said that being in the outdoors brought him freedom and allowed him to feel closer to the Lord. Funeral Services will be held at Sunset Funeral Home, located at 4631 Hondo Pass. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 9:00 pm, Wednesday, January11, 2012 with a Vigil/Rosary service scheduled at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 am, Thursday, January 12,2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2709 Alabama St. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 4848 Alps Dr and Dyer St Pallbearers are: Richard G. Contreras, Jim Contreras, Isaac Estrada, Jimmy Roman, Robert Zaraballo and Daniel Gonzales.
