Anthony J. Roman passed away on Monday, April 12, at the age of 89. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1920, he was a member of “the greatest generation” and proudly served as a U.S. Marine during WWII in the Pacific Theater, including Iwo Jima. After moving from Huntsville, Alabama, to El Paso he worked as an engineer at White Sands Missile Range. “Tony” was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rena Catherine McGimsey, and his parents Anthony and Stella Roman. He is survived by his sister Irene Sheets of Perkasie, PA. He will be missed by his friends, especially Anita and Klaus Hille, and neighbors from the Mountain Park area, and from the Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans’ Home. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:00 am, Friday, April 16, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast with a Funeral Service at 10:00 am. Committal Service will be at 11:00 am, Friday, April 16, 2010 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation for the Guardian of Defenders project of Center Chapel 2, Fort Bliss. Make the check payable to: Angel Project.
