Anna Jo Davis Thompson, 86, died at Monte Vista Retirement Community shortly after midnight on November 5, 2007. Born October 13, 1921 to Dr. and Mrs. Jay Davis, Anna Jo was a proud El Pasoan. She attended Gadsden Elementary school, Radford School for Girls, and graduated from Austin High School in 1939. She pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority in Maryland at Goucher College and received a scholarship to the University of Oklahoma where she earned her Masters Degree in Romance Languages. Returning to El Paso, she became a language teacher at her beloved Radford. Shortly after the end of World War II she was married in Trinity First United Methodist Church to Lassiter Thompson, a highly decorated Army Air Corps fighter pilot, also of El Paso. Lassiter enlisted in the Air Force in 1947 and the couple raised their family in locales ranging from Guam to West Germany. The family moved to El Paso upon Lassiter’s retirement from the Air Force in 1963. Anna Jo is survived by her three children; Lassiter II, Anna Jo T. Rutherford, and William Davis. Family members include El Paso’s Rod and Doris Thompson and Kay Lassiter, as well as Don and Susan Thompson of Lago Vista, Texas, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Trinity First United Methodist Church on Friday, November 9th at 11:30 a.m. and Anna Jo will be laid to rest with her husband Lassiter, at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, Her son observed, “She was one of the fortunate few who actually lived her own fairy tale.” In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Trinity First United Methodist Church or Radford School for Girls.
