Angel Blancas

Angel “Sonny” Blancas, Jr. passed away August 9, 2008, in Whitter, CA with his loving wife Petra at his bedside. Sonny will truly be missed but remembered as a Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle and Friend whose loving smile and wit always kept us smiling. Sonny had been a 17 year SGT. Security Guard for Barton Security in Whittier, CA. He graduated from Jefferson High School Class of 1956, excelling in sports. He enlisted in the Army September 21, 1956 through 1959 proudly serving as a paratrooper for the 101st Airborne Division as a Screaming Eagle, earning his wings. After leaving the service, he returned to El Paso to join the Police Force, followed by the Sheriff’s Department and later as a Government Postal Carrier. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Petra Blancas; sons, Richard Angel Blancas and Rene Blancas; daughters, Leticia Resto and Sandi Mendez Rodriguez; brothers, Carlos Blancas (Norma), and Javier; sisters, Norma Thomas, Martha Gomez Leon (Armando), and Patricia Blancas Tarango (Joe), 7 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5pm to 9pm with a Vigil at 7pm on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home-East, 750 N. Carolina Dr. Funeral Mass will be at 9am Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Guardian Angel Church, 3021 Frutas. Interment will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery with military honors.
