Alice Lea Vail

December 18, 1917 — October 10, 2016

Alice Lea Vail was born in Franklin, Texas December 18, 1917. Her parents were Sam P. and Anna Lea Black. Lea attended schools in Teague and Hillboro, Texas and graduated from Hillboro College with a teaching degree. During WWII she worked in Corpus Christi, Texas for U.S. Naval Air Station and after the war she worked for A and P Company in Dallas and Houston. She married Samuel Underwood Vail, an architect, and they moved to Battle Creek, Michigan to work for Kellogg Inc. Later they moved to El Paso, Texas and made this their home for over thirty years. Sam worked for Duffy Architectural Associates and Lea volunteered in the schools and community. The Vail's were members of St. Clements Episcopal Church and active volunteers in many areas of ministry at St. Clements. They were both active archivists and assisted in getting Burgess House Historical recognition and upkeep of this historical landmark. Lea was a member of DAR and volunteered in El Paso school where she was known as THE STORY LADY to hundreds of teachers and children. Committal Service will begin at 9:30 AM on Friday October 14, 2016 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
