MSgt Alfredo Ortega, USAF (Ret), 71, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family August 26, 2008. Fred was born to the late Juan F. and Mercedes Ortega on November 10, 1936 in El Paso, TX. He is preceded in death by his son Juan F. Ortega and his siblings, Juan M., Josephine, Nabor, Porfirio, and Pasqual. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 47 years Elvira; children, Alfredo Jr. (Lily), David (Yolanda), Eloisa (Mike), Carmen (Julio), Estela (Tony), Fernando (Rosa); daughter-in-law, Maria Ortega; 11 grandchildren and 3 sisters, Soledad, Sister Gregoria, LHPD and Genoveva; as well as a multitude of beloved nephews and nieces, close friends and colleagues. Fred proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for over 20 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and earned two Bronze Stars while serving at Phan Rhang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam and Phanom Royal Air Force Base, Thailand. Fred was also employed by the Boeing Company for over 20 years. He oversaw production control for such projects as the International Space Station, Trident Submarine, and numerous military aircraft platforms at the El Paso Facility. Visitation will be held 5:00-9:00 pm, Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast with a vigil at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be at 9:15 am, Friday, August 29, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with full military honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
