ALFONSO S. (Poggie) TARANGO, 82 entered our Lord’s heaven on Friday March 17, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born May 12, 1934 in El Paso, TX (Segundo Barrio). At 17 he volunteered for the United States Navy where he proudly served on the U.S.S. Mansfield (DD-728) during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 8782. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Father- in- law, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, who loved traveling with his family. People who met him for the first time, would say he had a positive impact on their lives. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Lydia M. Tarango (su chaparrita), his children, Lydia Isabel Palacios (Sergio), Alfonso Tarango Jr (Irma), Julieta Portillo (Rene), David M. Tarango, Daniel M. Tarango (Yvonne), 12 Grandchildren and 12 Great-grandchildren. Grandpa “Cheetos”, we will miss you dearly, but you will forever remain in our Hearts. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Vigil/Rosary at 7:00 pm Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home East, 750 N. Carolina. Funeral Mass at 11:15 am Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 7712 Rosedale. Committal Service to follow at 1:00 pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.
