Alfonso Castillo, born December 3, 1930 in El Paso, Texas passed away on September 7, 2008 with his family at his bedside. He is preceded in death by his wife Bertha Castillo, his parents Jesus and Dolores Castillo, and his brother Guillermo Morales. Survived by his sons, Alfonso & Rachel Castillo Jr., Javier Castillo & Patricia Macias, and daughters Amy & Robert Beard, and Lola & Robert Belcher of Largo, FL. Alfonso was a lifelong resident of El Paso, and active member of Santa Lucia Catholic Church and proudly served in U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Phelps Dodge after 38 years and was an active member of the United Steelworkers Union. Alfonso had 13 grandchildren; George (Cindy) Talavera, Roman, Patrick, Christopher, Eric, Stephanie, Marie, Matthew, Anthony, Andrew, Adam, Jade, and James, 6 great-grandchildren & 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Visitation will be at Sunset Funeral Home (East) 750, N Carolina Dr. Wednesday, from 4-9 pm (Vigil: 7-8). Funeral mass will be held at Santa Lucia Catholic Church, 518 Gallagher @ 10:00 am on Thursday, September 11, 2008. Alfonso will be laid to rest at Ft. Bliss National Cemetary @ 11:30 am with full military honors.
