Alberto Segura

Alberto (Gordis) Reyes Segura, 92, passed away peacefully at home, (His Way), on October 3, 2016 at his Daughter Delia’s home. He was born in El Paso, TX. The third of thirteen children born to the late Ramon Segura and Manuela Reyes Segura. Gordis, in 1942 enlisted in the U.S. Army along with his older brother the late Manuel Segura. His service to his country spanned from World War II to the Vietnam War. Assigned to the U.S. Infantry in the Ardennes and Rhineland European campaign. Rifleman 745 Alberto R. Segura fought in a significant battle. The Battle of the Bulge in 1944-45. He, along with his platoon, was captured and remained a POW till the end of the War (yes he is a Hero). He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, American Theater Badge, and Purple Heart. After coming home and marrying the love of his life, Gloria (Glory) Hernandez. He continued his service in the U.S. Army Reserve; upholding the family Tradition to serve. In 1968 the father of 10 was reactivated with the Fighting Seabees of the 22nd Naval Mobile Construction Battalion. Although exempt by “family status and age”. He went anyway. “Got to take care of Los Chavalones”. He was assigned to Camp Haskins, Da Nang South Vietnam. He was awarded the Vietnam Service with Fleet Marine Force Combat INS., Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Navy Combat Action Medal. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Chapter 8919, Saluki. Previous member of the Segura-McDonald VFW Chapter 55. He along with ALL the brave surviving members of the “Greatest Generation,” World War II veterans had been honored various times by the Benavidez-Patterson All-Airborne Chapter of the 82nd which continues doing these events. Thank You. He was a loving father and enjoyed music, dancing and reading. He also worked thirty years in civil service at White Sands Missile Range. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Gloria Hernandez Segura, his son Francisco Segura (US Navy), his grandchildren Linda, Fernando and JoAnna Fraire. Brother Manuel (US Army), Pilar Yoda, Guadalupe Granados and Paco Rivera. Survived by his children: George Hernandez (Clare), David Segura (Letty), Alberto Ramon (Margaret), Oscar (Josie), Bertha, Terry Fraire (Tony), Rosa Rubalcava (Jose), Joe Segura (Stephanie), Delia Fraire (Fernando) and Byron Segura. Twenty-one grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. His brothers and sisters, Francisco (US Navy), Soledad Gonzalez, Moises (US Army Cmd. Sgt. Major Green Beret, Ret.), Juan (US Army), Ramon (US Navy), Tina, Dolores Bocanegra, and Anita Segura. Pallbearers: David A. Segura, Luis Segura, Joe Segura, Byron Segura, Frankie Rubalcava, Adam Wilcoxson, Ruby Fraire, and Alexis Segura. Honorary Pallbearers: Fernando Fraire, Ramey Segura, and Alex Acosta. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with a Vigil/Rosary at 7:00pm on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Homes Northeast. Funeral Mass will be said at 1:00pm on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Guardian Angel Catholic Church. Committal Service will be at 2:00pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with full military honors.
