Aki Jackson, an El Paso resident from 1957 to 2006, passed peacefully in Arvada, Colorado with family at her side. As a skilled seamstress, in the 60s, Aki once made ballerina costumes for UTEP’s (Texas Western) presentation of the Nutcracker Suite, and later made draperies for General Omar Bradley’s residence. She opened Aki’s Custom Sewing, a small shop at the intersection of Fred Wilson and Dyer Street, in about 1971, where she worked for over thirty years, making hundreds of friends and performing thousands of clothing alterations.
Aki is survived by, and will be forever cherished by her children and their families: her daughter, Jackie, and her husband Bruce Easton; her son, Jay, and his wife Rosa and their daughters, Annette and Aubrey, Annette’s fiancee, Gregory Chadbourne; her daughter, Jessica, and her sons, Bill and John Anderson; her daughter, Janice, and her husband Lew Grace and their children, Sidney and Devon; her son, Jerry, and his girlfriend Jana Morey and Jana’s daughter Haley; Jerry’s daughter Jerilyn and her children Rogelio Jr. and Marissa and their father Rogelio Chavez; Jerilyn’s daughter and Aki’s newest great grandchild, Jaycee; and Jerry’s daughter, Jeanna, her boyfriend, Nick Ocanas and their children Nicholas and Jasmyne. Aki is also cherished by her nephew in Japan, Nobuyuki Yoshida and his wife Jun and their two sons.
Memorial Service will be at 11:30 am Friday, March 9, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home-East, 750 N. Carolina Dr. Inurnment will immediately follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. A wake will be at Homewood Suites, 6656 Gateway East Blvd. after inurnment. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
