Adolfo Fernandez

Dr. Adolfo Fernandez Jr., 61, was born March 2, 1951 to Emilia and Adolfo Fernandez and died Saturday, December 15, 2012. A native El Pasoan, he graduated from Socorro High School and earned a Bachelor and Master Degree in Business Administration, and a Master and Doctor Degree in Education from the University of Texas at El Paso. In 1970, Dr. Fernandez joined the U.S. Army Special Forces, where he served as a Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Award before being honorably discharged in 1976. In 1987, Dr. Fernandez was voted Democrat of the Year and later served on the Texas State Democratic Committee. Dr. Fernandez dedicated the rest of his life to educating children. He was proud to be the Assistant Principal at El Paso High School, yet he was most proud of being a wonderful and loving Father and Grandfather. He leaves behind those who loved him the most, his wife, Paula; his daughters Iris Muniz (Blas), Myra Velasquez (Arturo), and DeAnna O'Reilly (Neil); grandchildren Alyssa, Ian, Ava, and Emilio; his mother and father; five brothers Juan, Roberto, Daniel, Ricardo, and Ramon; and five sisters Martha, Esther, Emilia, Lourdes, and Rosalia. A Visitation will be from 5-9pm, Vigil/Rosary at 7pm, Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Funeral Mass will begin at 10am, Friday, December 21, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Church. Interment to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
