Adela Tallant

September 5, 1937 — September 13, 2016

Adela Montoya Tallant, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2016 in El Paso, Texas. She was born September 5, 1937 to Alfredo Murillo, Sr. and Angelina Guerrero Murillo in El Paso, Texas and was the oldest daughter of eight siblings. She was an educator, teacher and mentor for over 30 years in the El Paso and Ysleta Independent School Districts. Mrs. Tallant, graduated from Texas Western College (now University of Texas at El Paso) in 1959 with a Bachelor of Music. She started her teaching career at Hart Elementary School, and then taught at Clardy Elementary, Ranchland Elementary and retired after Lancaster Elementary. As a music major, Mrs. Tallant infused music into all of her teachings by working to bring the joy of music to her students. Throughout those years, she gained many friends and inspired many of her students to pursue their dreams, some of whom are now teachers, educators, musicians, lawyers, doctors, and the list goes on. She instilled the importance of family and the benefits of hard work, education and the drive to make the world a better place. She practiced what she preached and did so one child at a time, always knowing that knowledge would expand a person’s future beyond their dreams. She is pre-deceased by her first husband, Jesus P. Montoya who passed in 1970; and second husband, Ruben O. Tallant who passed in April 2016; as well as her father and mother, aunt Alicia Guerrero, sister Anna Maria Murillo; step-sons, Moss and Kevin Tallant and nephew Armando Murillo Jr. She is survived by her children David, Daniel and Deborah, daughter-in-law Katherine and two grandchildren, Alyssa and Jonathan, and her stepdaughter, Teresa Rhoda and step-daughters-in-law Joyce and Joanne Tallant and many step-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Alfredo Jr and sister-in-law Milda; Alicia Ahumada and brother-in-law Fernando; Armando and sister-in-law Mildred; Alfonso; Alberto; Angelina Rios and many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a contribution to any educational school, fund or initiative that would allow for increased opportunities for children or to those who are struggling with Alzheimer’s or dementia. As important, take a moment to thank a teacher that made a difference in your life. The Family appreciates and thanks all of our extended family and friends for your thoughts, prayers, and assistance for our Mother.
