Adela Antonieta Marquez

Adela Antonieta Douglas Márquez was born on September 24, 1937 in El Paso, TX. She died on April 7, 2025 at age 87. She was known affectionately as “Peggy”. Adela graduated from Jefferson High School and attended El Paso Tech, where she met and then married the love of her life Hugo E. Márquez on 11/19/1955. They had four daughters between 1958 and 1965. Adela was a wonderful homemaker, wife and mother who loved her family dearly and sacrificially through all of life’s rewarding and turbulent times. All of her daughter’s friends had a special relationship with her and they called her “Mom”. Adela was a customer service operator with El Paso Electric Company for 18 years. She was the friendly voice on the line until her retirement in 1996. In the 1980’s Adela was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi and was proud to serve with a helping heart to those in need locally. During her lifetime, Adela enjoyed her family, neighbors, church friends, singing Christian hymns, walking the malls, playing board games, traveling and drinking her “cafecito caliente”. She was preceded in death by her parents Adela R. Acuna Douglas (1972) and JC Douglas (1984), husband Hugo E. Márquez (2006), eldest daughter Rebecca A. Márquez (1981), and youngest daughter Adryannah E. Douglas Foster (2019). She is survived by daughters Lisandra P. Piper and Jennah Celeste A. Márquez, siblings Cora I. Vasquez and Robert C. Douglas, grandchildren Muhammad Karboji (Crystal Bales), Majid Karboji, Amani Karboji and Raneem Karboji, great grandchildren Idris Karboji, Ismail Karboji and Asiya Karboji, cousins Henry F. Holguin (Estela) and Elvira “Chuki” Aue and their families, and many wonderful nieces and nephews who remain dear to her heart. Adela’s lovely neighbors and friends include Enrique and Alicia Marquez, Walter and Andrea Bales, Josefina Meneses, Jessie and Bonnie Ruvalcaba and David and Martha Garcia. A very special thanks to Chris at Nurses Cares for his compassionate care to Adela. Many thanks to the staff at Envision Hospice for their compassionate care to our mother (Marie, Jose, Irma, Danielle, Mireya, Jaylene and Ruby). Our gratitude to her WellMed team for their diligence and support for her medical needs (Dr. Christine Hernandez, Dr. Bertha Vela, and PRN Cynthia Montanez). Thank you to Dr. Jeffrey Vazquez and the podiatric care you gave Adela - she enjoyed her conversations with you. Our most sincere love and thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father for giving Adela such a beautiful Christian family at Montwood Church of the Nazarene. You never failed to pray and share the love of Jesus in Adela’s journey this side of heaven. Thank you, Pastor Jon Stout (Kim), and Pastor Chuck Parish (Renee), for your godly leadership and friendship through the years. God bless you for your loving-kindness to our dear mother. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a Funeral Service at 12:00 PM, Monday, April 21, 2025 at Montwood Church of the Nazarene, 10640 Montwood. Interment will follow at 1:30 PM at Evergreen East Cemetery, 12400 Montana.
