Acelia Guzman Jones was born on July 25, 1928 and passed away January 24, 2022. She was born in Lanark, New Mexico to Simon and Fidencia Guzman. She was the second oldest of six children. Her father Simon worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad and as a result she grew up on several railroad sidings. Acelia was known to be the fearless one of the bunch. She met her husband of 63 years, Arves E. Jones Sr. while bullfighting a bull in a pasture. They met in 1942 when she was only 14 years old and he was 17. At the time she told him her name was Stella so that he wouldn’t know who she really was. The name stuck with her. They corresponded with each other the whole time he was a Marine in the South Pacific. On November 16, 1945, he went to her home to find her and they were married 3 days later on November 19, 1945. The couple resided in Deming, New Mexico for a time before moving to El Paso, Texas. Acelia was always very active with her children’s PTA as well as with the Boy Scouts. She was also very active with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They have three children, Arves E. Jones Jr (Shelley), Milton W. Jones Sr (Laura), and Martha L. Castillo (Abelardo). They also have five grandchildren Milton W. Jones Jr (America), Caelum A.E.Jones, Synamon D. Williams (Phillip), Jason R. Messer, and Amanda N. Silva. They have 15 great grandchildren Sarah E. Luna, Annika L. Luna, Iylish A. Crawford, Julianna R. Messer, Kody W. Jones, Isabella Jones, Rolando G. Rodriguez, Alexandra A. Messer, Jacob S. Rodriguez. Victoria Jones, Dylan W. Jones, Citlaly M.R. Silva, Quinnlan Jones, Waylon Williams and Gwendolyn Williams. 6 Great-Great Grandchildren Kaesey Redenius, Liliana E. Mejia, Rosalina L. Lara, Izzabella L.S. Hohensee, Nova A. Hohensee and a baby boy to be born on July 8, 2022. She is also survived by her sister Bertha Bravo and her brother Jesus Guzman as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Simon and Fidencia Guzman, her husband Arves E. Jones Sr., her sisters Dora Wood, Esperanza Aragon, Dolores Chavez, as well as her granddaughter Angalee Jones and great-grandson Steven R. Messer. Services will be held at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast on February 2, 2022 from 8am-10am. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Donations may also be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her memory.
