Susie M. McDowell, 88, of El Paso, TX passed away October 4, 2016 at home. She was born March, 5, 1928 in Leary, GA to Charlie and Eva Thrower.
Susie attended high school in Orlando, FL. In 1952, she moved with her family to Roswell, New Mexico and joined Ware’s Tabernacle Baptist Church.
In 1966, she relocated to El Paso, TX to continue her career with civil service retiring in 1987. In 1975 Susie married Richard McDowell and became a member of Mount Zion Baptist under Pastor James L. Williams.
She was a member of the Eastern Stars, Stars of the Sun, Chapter 8. Susie enjoyed cooking, spending time with family, bingo and traveling.
Susie is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Eva Thrower, sister, Frankie Thomas, and first husband Fred Stevens. Survivors include husband, Deacon Richard McDowell, Aunt, Leatha Crayton-Dean, Washington, DC, children Betty Bailey, Houston, TX, Freddie Stevens, El Paso, Donnie Stevens, Los Angeles, CA, Tommie Stevens, El Paso, Monete McDowell, Phoeniz, AZ, and step- daughter Joyce Maxie, Cincinnati, OH. She also is survived by 9 grandchildren, numerous great and great- great grandchildren, and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 9:00pm on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Homes Northeast. Funeral Service will be at 11:00am on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Mount Zion Baptist Church. Committal Service will be at 1:00pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes Northeast.
